Day 1 Arrival in Ulaan Bataar

Upon your arrival at Ulaan Bataar airport, you will be met by one of our representatives and, after checking in at the hotel, we will take you on a city sightseeing tour and for a welcome dinner.

Day 2 Travel to Ulgii

You will fly to Ulgii City, in the Bayan-Ulgii province in Western Mongolia, about a 3-hour flight. The population of this province is mostly Kazakh, with their own culture and language. At the airport, you will be met your English-speaking guide, as well as your driver and expedition cook. Before lunch you will visit the town of Ulgii, seeing such sites as the local museum, the open air market, and the mosque. After lunch, we will drive to Tavn Bogd (Five Peaks) National Park, about 90 km, with an overnight stay in a tent camp (Tent/L/D).

Day 3 Drive to the Tsagaan Gol Valley

Today we take a 4 to 5-hour drive through the foothills of the mountains and reach the Tsagaan Gol Valley in the early afternoon. This is a commonplace for the nomadic peoples to make camp in the summertime and where the Tuvan people live, practicing their Shaman religion. Here we will meet our camel guide to prepare for the next day’s hike. (Tent/B/L/D)

Day 4 Hiking to the Tavn Bogd Base Camp

Today we will hike 18 km to the base camp of Tavn Bogd. Our luggage will be transported by camels, handled by the local Tuvan people, they are friendly and helpful. On the way, you can see the ice peaks of the Potanin and Alexander Glaciers. The base camp is at an elevation of 3000 m. Total hiking time about 6 to 8 hours (Tent/B/L/D)

Day 5 Acclimatization Day

After breakfast, we will start slowly walking for about an hour and then start climbing to Malchin Peak (4050 m), which is on the Mongolian side of the Russian border. Malchin Peak is the lowest of the Holy Five Peaks. It takes 6 to 7 hours to climb to the top of Malchin. Most of the climb will be on rocks, then back to camp to relax. (Tent/B/L/D)

Day 6-9 Khuiten Ascent

We will cross the Potanin Glacier which lies between the base camp and Khuiten Peak. We will cross many big crevasses before reaching the peak. From the base camp, the hike is one day. We will set up camp at 3,500 m. The next morning, weather permitting, we will set about climbing the peak. (Tent/B/L/D)

Day 10 Return to the White River (Tsagaan Valley)

Today we will hike back to our camp in the Tsagaan Gol Valley. This evening we will have the opportunity to visit Tuvan families and share their culture and lifestyle. Total hiking: 6 to 8 hours. (Tent/B/L/D)

Day 11 Return to Ulgii

We will say goodbye to our Tuvan friends and take the 7-hour drive back to Ulgii. On the way, we will visit with the Kazakh Eagle Hunters. Tonight is our chance to sleep in a Kazakh yurt (ger), and we will celebrate the ascent with cold beers and a traditional Kazakh meal. Alternatively, you can spend the night in our guesthouse, Eagle's Nest, with all modern comforts. (GorGH/B/L/D)

Day 12 Return Flight to Ulaan Bataar

This morning we catch the return flight to Ulaanbataar. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Free afternoon for shopping. (Hotel/B/L/D)
